We have been growing and selling this agave for close to 30 years while the rest of the industry just caught on. We had no name so called it ‘Shamu’ for the compactly muscular shape. The bloom stalk grows about a foot a day to 20′, + or -. This is a natural occurring hybrid of Queen Victoria agave and the Agave scabra. The leaves are extremely thick and very stiff so not a great choice near foot traffic as Shamu takes no prisoners. Incidentally, the Johnny Come Latelys have tagged it with the name ‘Sharkskin’ but we still prefer Shamu!
